GY&K Antler is proud to announce that we have been selected as a finalist for a 2013 MITX Innovation Award. The MITX Awards celebrate the innovations powering the future of marketing and revolutionizing the way we work and play. Our work for the PF Flyers Sandlot App is up for the Most Innovative Digital Creative Award.
This spring, PF Flyers challenged us to create excitement around their collaboration with Fox Home Entertainment for the 20th anniversary re-release of The Sandlot and the release of a commemorative PF Flyers shoe. We turned to PF Flyers’s devoted Facebook community and developed a custom application to let fans get in the game. The PF Flyers Sandlot App allows fans to join the team and be immortalized on a custom baseball card for a chance to win the Limited Edition Sandlot Center Hi shoes, to take a quiz to discover which character they most resembled for a discount code redeemable at pfflyers.com, and to learn more about Fox’s screening tour across the US.
“Marketing is no longer about telling people why your brand is relevant, now we must show people,”
said Luke Garro, EVP Director of Social and Experiential at GY&K Antler. “Allowing fans to put themselves in this campaign was vital to our goal of getting the word out about the collaboration and reuniting the brands with fans of this cult classic.”
GY&K is proud to announce that we are the recipients of four 2013 Aster Awards, three Gold and one Silver. The Aster Awards Program recognizes the nation’s most talented healthcare marketing professionals for excellence in advertising.
One of the Gold Awards was for our partnership with client Eastern Connecticut Health Network in creating and deploying a mobile application. The idea of ‘connections’ was the focus of ECHN’s brand campaign, so creating a mobile application made sense to help the community stay connected to ECHN’s health network. The basic objectives of the mobile app were to allow the community to:
-Get health-related news
-Watch videos directly from the ECHN video library
-Find an ECHN location and get directions
-Search and register for community programs and events
-Keep track of/organize all health-related information
“This approach helped us generate awareness of the depth and breadth of services offered at ECHN as well as create convenient ways for the community to easily access information for all of their health needs,” said Travis York, GY&K President. “ECHN has always been a great partner, and we look forward to collaborating on more innovative programs in the future that will help them achieve their mission in the communities they serve.”
We are excited to announce that our very own Matt Doyle, Executive Producer/Director of our in-house multimedia offering Big Brick Productions, has been nominated for a 2013 Webby Award. This award honors excellence on the internet, across a broad variety of categories.
Doyle has been nominated in the “Online Film and Video: Sports” category for his work on ESPN’s Kenny Mayne’s Wider World of Sports: Season 2. It’s the second consecutive year the show has been recognized by the Webby’s in this category. They are in good company; the competition includes the BBC’s coverage of the Olympics and the New York Times short documentary “Paddling Blind”.
“As cliché as it might sound, it really is an honor just to be nominated for an award like the Webby,” said Doyle, the show’s producer. “It’s a recognition of the hard work and dedication that all of us put into Wider World of Sports. It’s also an excuse to make Kenny take us out for an expensive steak dinner, so there’s that.”
Wider World of Sports, an ESPN original, digital series that chronicles some of the most unique, outrageous, and visually stunning sporting events from around the globe was created by the show’s host Kenny Mayne, and Doyle, his producer, while the two worked at ESPN. The show’s four-man crew logged thousands of frequent flier miles, traveling to locations like Bosnia, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Thailand, and Brazil in search of the wildest events the sporting world had to offer.
GY&K Marketing is pleased to announce the launch of its newest feature, Track Wars. GY&K employee, Luke Bonner, created Track Wars as an interactive way to spice up the office music scene and develop an online community of listeners and contributors.
“I’m reaching out to an array of interesting personalities to contribute playlists to the site, then pitting them head-to-head,” said Luke Bonner. “So, one week it could be a professional athlete facing a small business owner, and the next maybe a politician facing a touring musician. I think it will make for an exciting competition.”
In an era where fandom and viewership extends beyond simply watching an athlete in a game or listening to an artist’s album, Track Wars provides an interactive way to reveal another layer of the personalities of its participants. Contributors have complete creative control over their playlists. Each week, two dueling playlists are posted. Whichever playlist receives the most votes, wins. The winner then stays on to compete against a new challenger in the following week.
The first week’s match-up features Matt Bonner (San Antonio Spurs) against Gary Clark Jr. (musician). To enjoy the playlists and cast your vote, visit http://trackwars.tumblr.com.
About The Contestants
Originally from Concord, NH, Matt Bonner is currently in his ninth NBA season as a member of the San Antonio Spurs. Nicknamed the “Red Rocket,” Matt is known as one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the league. He was a member of the 2007 World Champion San Antonio Spurs team. He played his college basketball at the University of Florida, and was the valedictorian of Concord High School’s class of 1999.
Gary Clark Jr. is a guitarist/musician/actor born and raised out of Austin, TX. Weaned on John Lee Hooker, Lightnin Hopkins, and T-Bone Walker, Clark fuses his deep blues influence with a love of classic hip-hop and contemporary soul. The virtuosity Clark displays, and the tone he rings from his cherry-red Epiphone Casino guitar, put most modern rock shredders to shame. He has collaborated with the likes of Nas, Alicia Keys, The Roots, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton. In 2012, Clark was awarded SPIN Magazine’s Golden Corndog award for performing in more major North American Music Festivals throughout the year than any other musician on the planet. Warner Bros. released his debut album “Blak and Blu” on October 22, 2012.
About Luke Bonner
Luke Bonner is the younger brother of San Antonio Spur Matt Bonner. He played college basketball at West Virginia University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After finishing his college career and earning his masters in sport management from the Isenberg School of Management, Luke played professionally in Europe and in the NBA-Developmental League. He is currently in his first year of retirement from basketball and working as the marketing coordinator for Griffin York & Krause, a marketing innovation company based in Manchester, NH. He is also a cofounder of the Rock On Foundation, along with his brother Matt. The Rock On Foundation sets out to encourage people to rock the things they love—whether that’s sports, arts, or academics. Rock On Foundation works to generate new opportunities for people to reach their full potential.

GY&K is now accepting applications from students who want to join the ‘Raw Experience’ internship program for the 2013 spring and summer semesters. Raw is an acronym for ‘rendering authentic work,’ a name created by the inaugural class in summer 2012.
The firm is seeking students interested in the positions of marketing strategy, graphic design, web development, social media, copywriting, account management and video production.
Each intern will represent a specific department within the firm and the collective team will work on projects from start to finish with mentorship from GY&K staff.
“This experience is different from a traditional internship because students have a chance to collaborate with their peers as well as a variety of GY&K mentors, rather than just being isolated in one department,” said Travis York, President of GY&K.
“In a real life situation you’re going to be wearing several different hats,” says Corinna DaCruz, 2012 summer intern. “This internship prepares you for what working in the marketing industry is truly like.”

Griffin York & Krause (GY&K), a full service marketing innovation company, today unveiled a new internship program that groups students together as a team, rather than having them report exclusively to individual departments as they do in traditional intern programs. Each student represents a different marketing skillset including creative, broadcast production, digital and earned media/social media, and they work together on projects from start to finish.
The RAW Experience at GY&K is designed to nurture the raw talent of the top students in various creative fields, while enabling them to learn from marketing professionals and their peers. The goal of the program is to produce workforce-ready candidates who understand the demands of today’s evolving marketing landscape
“This program provides students with a realistic business experience that encourages creative thinking and teamwork, two critical skills for anyone entering the business world,” said Brady Sadler, VP Business Development & Marketing at GY&K. “These students are not doing overflow work or filing papers, they are experiencing what it’s like to be a critical member of our team working on every aspect of our process from strategy to execution to tracking and measurement. We are fortunate to have such innovative young minds bringing fresh ideas to GY&K, and we’re excited to provide this unique experience that should give them a head start.”
The inaugural classes of students represent a variety of schools including: Southern New Hampshire University, University of New Hampshire Manchester, New Hampshire Institute of Technology, and University of Colorado Boulder.
The program is run on a three term basis – fall, spring, and summer – and each semester, the interns will be given a mix of structured projects along with others where they have free rein to choose. For this initial group of interns, the first task is to brand themselves, which they have as The RAW Experience at GY&K. From naming the program to designing a website, the first group of interns has been instrumental in developing the program from the ground up.
“GY&K has a track record of nurturing talent and we currently employ five former students who started as interns and now have full-time positions, said Travis York, President of GY&K, who is also an advisor to the New Hampshire Stay Work Play initiative. “We believe this is a mutually beneficial program and we’re excited to see what these new students create.”
